BTS : "Secondo Medioevo" - Mezzosangue

Secondo Medioevo Mezzosangue

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the latest music video we created for the artist Mezzosangue.
It was an honor to be a part of this masterpiece, which has been remastered for the release of the new album on July 19, 2024.

For this project, we wanted to recreate a post-apocalyptic world in great detail.
Recreating such a set outdoors would have inevitably been very expensive. Additionally, due to the dolly shot we had in mind, there would have been a lot of parallax near the virtual camera,
making traditional compositing with 3D cards also limited.

Unreal Engine Decals

This is why we decided to try Unreal Engine (used a lot in the video game industry but increasingly for the production of cinematics).
This software allowed us to easily move a lot of the geometry in the scene with Nanite and render it in acceptable times thanks to the Lumen graphics engine.

Although we didn’t use all the tools available in Unreal Engine, such as the compositing nodes for the green screen or the cloth simulator,
using this software was a great discovery and we will surely explore all its potential for virtual production soon.

We often try to create practical effects on set, but sometimes the scale of the environment needed is simply too big, and if these tools help tell the story, they are more than welcome!
